I'm thumbing through the ol' song book now. Some of the titles are really funny by themselves. Well, funny and disturbing
"Loyally Submitting to Theocratic Order" (or else!)
"The Shulammite Remnant" (Has anyone actually heard of these people? What happened to the rest of them?)
"God's Warriors Are Advancing" (Can't you just feel the love?)
"Balsam in Gilead" (WTF?)
i haven't been to a meeting since last thanksgiving weekend.
not one elder has inquired about me coming to the meetings.
no calls, no inquiries.
Although a newbie, I must agree with Carmel. Count your blessings. I have not attended in six weeks and have been repeatedly called. Thank God for caller ID I say. I am also fortunate to live in a semi-secure building as just five minutes ago one of the local elders was at the buzzer. I, of course, did not answer. Maybe you look forward to a meeting/showdown, but I am just trying to lay low so as not to go to the JC stage. Every message or call from the elders causes a few minutes of acute stress that I just do not enjoy. Oh, how I wish they would just leave me alone!

Then it breaks into that ridiculous "But the bible gives us a reason for cheer." I figured the best way to deal with it was to give it some new lyrics that actually made sense. If you want 'em, here they are.

1 Free thought is here. Witnesses fear that their kids won't swallow what they're taught
to follow. Loving their dreams of joining teams that leave no time for ministry. But the
Watchtower gives us a reason for cheer that our children will view their schoolmates with
fear. From their minds will be gone the thoughts that are clear. Armageddon will be something
they'll hold dear.
2 Worldlings are pleased with charity They don't put in hours unloading Watchtoers. What
good's it for feeding the poor when they don't place the magazines? But the
Watchtower defines what is a good deed Stuffing poeple's porches with old kingdom
seed. We don't really care if they bother to read. 'Cause that was the end of the
territory.
3 Unbiased thought people are taught is the way of wisdom Our campaign has
missed 'em. Filling their minds with thoughts sublime Satan leads them by the
hand. But the Watchtower builds us a white picket fence that we cower behind and
take our defense from the devil's poison of independence and the horrors resulting from
common sense.
i had my bible study today, it was about demons,anyway the sister said that those shows on tv.
against jws are instigated by demons.. i told her about silent lambs and that it was true and had nothing to do with demons.
unless it was the molesting demon elders she was refering to.
Look at the bright side, you got a good strong taste of the WT mentality without much investment at all. Some people don't get to see this side of things until it's too late. That being said, I'm sorry.
minimus mentioned in the "apostates are infiltrating the congregations" thread that the meetings used to be interesting, with skits and such, and you know, i had forgotten that!
but they were interesting many years ago!.
we had humorous skits and attention-getting skits, and a lot more slide presentations way back when.. so this made me think of a talk that was very highly requested in our area, titled above.
I don't remember any musical talks, but when I was a kid we had a CO named Gary May. On one visit he had all youngins draw or paint a scene of what they looked forward to in the "new world". Viewing it from our perspective at the time, it was really coool. So nice to have a CO loosen up now and then. Actually, I think he was kind of a musical/theater buff because one time the cong. finished singing and from the stage he says "That was horrible. I want you to sing it again like you mean it." He was serious...the sound guy rewound the tape and we really did it again, actually trying hard to please him. Thanks for sparking that memory, seeitall, I just had a good laugh.

i've heard that there are people who thrive on being with people.
they gain energy from it.
then there are the loners who gain energy from being alone.
I've been a loner most of my life. Although I am very comfortable alone, I love to be around people. This is a recent development. In the last month or so since leaving the borg, my brain has really started to clear out and old patterns of thought are just dying. But I'm still in the life situation I created for myself as a loner. This leads to what I call "social frustration." It became all too clear when someone dialed my number by accident and I said "Hey! How ya doin?" Anyway, to answer your question, I'm a recovering loner.
i work with someone who is df'ed, actually my cousin.
he is trying to get reinstated.
we got into a semi-heated discussion and i gave him a lot of my anti-wt viewpoints, trying to get him to think for himself.

We got into a semi-heated discussion and I gave him a lot of my anti-WT viewpoints, trying to get him to think for himself. Anyway, I ran into that classic brick wall. Whenever the conversation came too close to actual objective thinking on his part, he would twist my words or answer a question I didn't ask or some other such nonsense. We just agreed to disagree and left it at that for now. Thinking about it later, I realized that he has no real moral compass of his own as he lives a life that serves to numb the higher self, IMO. Sleeps with other people's wives, drugs, drink, theft...all this and applying for reinstatement (another thread in itself). I came to regret having said anything to him, though, because without Mama spoonfeeding rules and regs to him, he would probably be even worse off or dead. Was I right to feel this way? Should I continue to show him real truth or just let him go toward the borg? Any opinions would be appreciated.

Absolutely 100% positive. My only regret is that I ignored all the doubts I had for years. if only I had acted sooner I would be that much freer.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. It's good to be part of a community of freethinkers at last. To Carmel: I still believe that "experience" a few years ago was valid. I mean I just felt an overwhelming sense of forgiveness for all I have done wrong and felt I had begun to really understand God. But, like I said, all those years of WT programming soon reared their ugly head and put that experience into a mold. Going back to the KH at that point was a disappointment in that I was quite coldly received (different town than I grew up in and was DF'ed from) and no one seemed the least bit happy that I wanted back in. I should have gone with my gut instincts and followed my heart toward love, but I pressed on, determined to be reinstated. A big step backwards, IMO.
Zero Kool-- I like the way you think. Really liked the point about how our heads should never be filled, but that is what the WT would like. Never viewed things that way but I will now. Right on.

P.S. I don't in any way imply that I am some sort of spiritual guru or that I have any answers by the name "new light". Just kind of a parody of the whole "light gets brighter" thing and I thought it was kind of ironic to use it on a site opposed to WTBTS. i thank you.

Hi Everyone! Well, after lurking here for about 3 weeks, I finally registered and decided to "join the club." Reading your posts has really been a great help in continuing on the path I know to be right. A little history if you'll bear with me.... Born and raised a JW....baptized at 13, DF'ed at 16. I've been reinstated for two years. After spending ten unsuccessful years in "the world," I had an honest-to-goodness spiritual awakening. Unfortunately, years of Watchtower programming tainted the experience and I felt I must get reinstated to please "God." Anyway, in the autumn of 2003, I began to notice little things in our study material that just did not measure up to real truth...you know, scriptures or even tiny parts thereof grossly misapplied or taken out of context. After a few months of this, doubts about Watchtower's validity as God's spokesman took root and I did a little research. WOW! was I ever blown away by what I read. Long story short I almost immediately stopped all "mother-approved" activity and have not set foot in a KH since December. Of course, my circumstances made that move much easier than for most, as I just moved into a new town and congregation and had not really made any new friends that would feel the need to pressure me. Even in this short amount of time, the positive changes have been many. I have a newfound love of humanity that I hadn't dreamed of as a Witness. That regimen of "Christian" work really choked out my better instincts. I look forward to the future now. I will go to college and start a family..a normal family. Thank you for reading through this and I really look forward to your replies. It really feels good to be here
